Shelly D. Dick was born in El Paso,
Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981, graduating
cum laude. Upon graduation,
she was employed by Dow Chemical where she managed a $3 million sales
territory for five years before attending law school. Ms. Dick
received her Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State
University School of Law in 1988, where she was a member of the LSU Law
Review. She has extensive experience in complex, multiparty
commercial litigation, labor and employment, and railroad litigation in
both state and federal court. In addition, Ms. Dick has extensive
trial experience, including both bench and jury trials in both the state
and federal courts. She has
presented continuing legal education courses in ethics, civil procedure,
Tribal Law and Jurisdiction and is the author of “The Final States of
Trial and Entry of Judgment for the AIC-LCP Louisiana Civil Litigation Series. In 2008, Ms. Dick was appointed by the
Louisiana Department of Labor to serve as ad hoc hearing officer in State
Workers Compensation cases in an effort to assist the department in
clearing a back logged docket of worker’s compensation cases.
